Mr Benn - Police - Out Now!

Everyone’s favourite ragga hip hop skanker is back with another brilliant release on his very own Square One Sound label that’s sure to make your batty wind. Mr Benn has been buried in the studio, recording day and night in readiness for his debut album release later this year. As anticipation grows for the main event, he brings us a taste of things to come with his new single ‘Police’. A fusion of dancehall and hip hop, Mr Benn has bubbled up a stuttered riddim, horn led, low end theory for long time collaborator Blackout Ja to flow over in his inimitable style, creating a call to arms in response to the ever growing divide between the public and local constabulary.

UK’s Magic Fly comes correct with two remixes, both of which bring that boom bap, bass heavy style that bound to make your hands clap. Canadian beat smith Jpod turns it on it’s head, lacing the vocal with a broken beat, wonky dancehall riddim that sounds like nothing else you’ve heard. Both remain true to the original but give it fresh legs in the unique style of each remixer.

Released on limited 12″ slabs of wax and unlimited ones and zeros, it’s available now from all good record shops such as this one…

Lucha Libre - Tag Team Mix

17th August, 2010

Residing in Glasgow we are rarely short of quality DJ mixes to run down the batteries in our boom boxes. Whether it’s our own Benny Boom, Point To C, NoFace or MGCK or the likes of Numbers’ Jackmaster, Ali Ooft & The Revenge or Optimo, we don’t have to look far to keep our inspiration high. Still, it’s always a pleasure when something comes out of nowhere to remind you that no matter how well you know your own scene there’s still much more to be heard.

Infesticons - Bombs Anthem - (A La Fu’s Ban The Bomb Remix) - Free Download!

13th August, 2010

Our man A La Fu is one of the very best DJs going. He’s spun the wax to make your hands clap for Roots Manuva, Scratch Perverts and Def Jux as well as toured the globe with his precision cuts, air tight mixes and crates of dance floor dynamite. As part time resident for our How’s Your Party? club nights we’ve all been treated to his inspiring DJ sets on the regular but recently recording commitments have taken priority and we have missed his styles more often than not. He’s back with a special treat to make up for lost time though with this free giveaway.

Infesticons are Creature, Seraphim, Juice Aleem and Mike Ladd and have been making some of the finest underground hip hop going in recent years. Their recent ‘Bedford Park’ LP for Big Dada has reminded us all that thoughtful, intelligent hip hop still has a place in today’s mad-cap world. It’s an album everyone should check.

A La Fu has taken their recent single ‘Bombs Anthem’ and given his own twist, flipping tribal drums, wonky synths and deconstructed melodies in our faces, leaving us with one of the best pieces of music we have had the privelege to give away on this here blog. Don’t believe us? Get involved and then we’ll see what’s up..

Another Scottish gem is young producer S-Type who’s been crafting some of the best hip hop beats to come from anywhere let alone the grey clouded climbs of Glasgow. Luckily for us S-Type has seen fit to remix Found for our listening delight and we can share the results with you. Get up to get into it…

He’s known to take the odd electronic battle weapon and give it some slo-mo fat beat 110bpm treatment to devastating effect. This time is no different as he takes Magnetic Man’s massive ‘I Need Air’ and twists it into a head nodding beat freak anthem that is bound to become a Mixed Bizness classic over the coming months. Profisee regularly teams up with one of our favourite production duos Capitol 1212 on stage and on wax and the terrible trio recently showed T in the Park what’s up with their oh-so-tight stage show. The Revenge is one of our best friends and it’s been amazing to see him blow up big in the game these last 12 months. He’s doing it like never before and we are always happy to see our family do so well. For someone with such talent and profile it’s a surprise he does not play in our home town of Glasgow more often. One of our recent friendly acquisitions took place to the fantastic Rockness Festival in Inverness, where our main man Benny Boom was spinning those parry platters for the kids that matter. We met for the first time a like minded soul who’s been pushing his own brand of electronic bassness around Glasgow for the last year or so.
