Zebra Baby ‘+1′ - Free Download

“I got a spaceship ayo it’s actually my mini van, girls call it well hung I call it the son of sam, killin it, killin it…”

Zebra Baby came together by chance, meeting as co workers in Urban Outfitters before joining forces to create some of the most dance inducing, rhythm hitting, electronic tinged hip hop beats to bump in our boom boxes in recent memory. Harnessing the sexual energy of contemporaries Thunderheist and Yo! Majesty and the raw bravado of The Beastie Boys and 2 Live Crew, Zebra Baby’s sound references the present as well as the past as they bring the new sound of Brooklyn to the clubs of the world.

Those generous types at ITD Music have given us the original version to offer up for free so don’t hang about…

Lucha Libre - Tag Team Mix

17th August, 2010

Residing in Glasgow we are rarely short of quality DJ mixes to run down the batteries in our boom boxes. Whether it’s our own Benny Boom, Point To C, NoFace or MGCK or the likes of Numbers’ Jackmaster, Ali Ooft & The Revenge or Optimo, we don’t have to look far to keep our inspiration high. Still, it’s always a pleasure when something comes out of nowhere to remind you that no matter how well you know your own scene there’s still much more to be heard.

Just this morning we received this mix from a mysterious DJ duo known only as Lucha Libre. Infesticons - Bombs Anthem - (A La Fu’s Ban The Bomb Remix) - Free Download!

13th August, 2010

Our man A La Fu is one of the very best DJs going. He’s spun the wax to make your hands clap for Roots Manuva, Scratch Perverts and Def Jux as well as toured the globe with his precision cuts, air tight mixes and crates of dance floor dynamite. As part time resident for our How’s Your Party? club nights we’ve all been treated to his inspiring DJ sets on the regular but recently recording commitments have taken priority and we have missed his styles more often than not. He’s back with a special treat to make up for lost time though with this free giveaway.

Infesticons are Creature, Seraphim, Juice Aleem and Mike Ladd and have been making some of the finest underground hip hop going in recent years. Their recent ‘Bedford Park’ LP for Big Dada has reminded us all that thoughtful, intelligent hip hop still has a place in today’s mad-cap world. It’s an album everyone should check.

A La Fu has taken their recent single ‘Bombs Anthem’ and given his own twist, flipping tribal drums, wonky synths and deconstructed melodies in our faces, leaving us with one of the best pieces of music we have had the privelege to give away on this here blog. Don’t believe us? Get involved and then we’ll see what’s up..

Electronic folksters Found rank up there as one of our favourite bands here at Mixed Bizness HQ. Reminiscent Beta Band in their heyday and Tunng when they were good, they stitch together electronic leanings and organic musings with the greatest of ease and have been responsible for two fantastic albums, released on their own Surface Pressure label in recent years. Another Scottish gem is young producer S-Type who’s been crafting some of the best hip hop beats to come from anywhere let alone the grey clouded climbs of Glasgow. Luckily for us S-Type has seen fit to remix Found for our listening delight and we can share the results with you. Get up to get into it…

19th July, 2010

Goodgroove Records’ DJ-P is becoming a regular fixture on these pages. With waresi-need-air-djps-dubfunk-refix-110-140-edit like this to peddle, who are we to stand in his way? He’s known to take the odd electronic battle weapon and give it some slo-mo fat beat 110bpm treatment to devastating effect. This time is no different as he takes Magnetic Man’s massive ‘I Need Air’ and twists it into a head nodding beat freak anthem that is bound to become a Mixed Bizness classic over the coming months. One of these days we’ll keep these tasty beats to ourselves but we are the gift that keeps on giving…

Profisee & Capitol 1212 Live at T In The Park

19th July, 2010

Profisee is not only one of our best friends but also our MC of choice when we bring those big and bashy stepping sounds to town. Benny Boom and him have been tearing the proverbial it in an upwards direction for a while now and are set to double their efforts in the coming months. Profisee regularly teams up with one of our favourite production duos Capitol 1212 on stage and on wax and the terrible trio recently showed T in the Park what’s up with their oh-so-tight stage show. It’s turntables and a mixer, the way hip hop should be! Check it out on the BBC iPlayer now…

DJ Moneyshot’s ‘Rewind Forward’ Mixes For Puma

19th July, 2010

Celebrating the sounds of the 70s and 80s, Moneyshot has taken the spirit of Puma’s retro range and flipped it into mixtape form for y’all to listen to. Al Hudson & Soul Partners - Music (The Revenge Rework)

2nd July, 2010

The Revenge is one of our best friends and it’s been amazing to see him blow up big in the game these last 12 months. He’s doing it like never before and we are always happy to see our family do so well. For someone with such talent and profile it’s a surprise he does not play in our home town of Glasgow more often. July 9th sees that rectified with a set at Slam’s Return To Mono night at our favourite late night haunt Sub Club. To help spread his deep house and disco gospel he’s given us this amazing edit of Al Hudson’s ‘Music’ to share with you party people. You can’t say fairer than that really…

PMCQ June 2010 Promo Mini Mix

30th June, 2010

Here at Mixed Biz HQ we spend a lot of time travelling around, making new friends and sharing music with like minded peeps. It’s in our nature and we’ll be damned if we’re going to stop now! One of our recent friendly acquisitions took place to the fantastic Rockness Festival in Inverness, where our main man Benny Boom was spinning those parry platters for the kids that matter. We met for the first time a like minded soul who’s been pushing his own brand of electronic bassness around Glasgow for the last year or so. Paul MacQueen aka PMCQ has been running the successful Muck nights in Glasgow and has brought the likes of Strip Steve and Malente to throbbing dance floors in our fair city. Of course no successful club night can exist without quality residents and PMCQ is just that. Here’s a summer lovin mini mix for you to check out in case you date question such beliefs…

Loops Haunt - Strange Fruit Mix Vol. 1

25th June, 2010

For those that don’t know, Loops Haunt is the hippest and hottest property to come out of Dundee since the Beano. His glitched up, deconstructed electronic beats have made massive fans out of everyone from Mary Anne Hobbs to Aphex Twin and have taken him across Europe and beyond. If you missed it then we strongly suggest you go out and buy his ‘Rubber Sun Grenade’ EP without hesitation. You will not be disappointed. He’s just sent us this weird and wonderful DJ mix to share with you all and it’s something to saviour. Taking in disparate influences from Miles Davis to Venetian Snares, it’s one of the most intriguing and subtley brilliant mixes we have heard for some time….
