The Beekeepers ‘Apiculture’ album drops on Jalapeno Records on 9th May so as a treat here’s a free remix from Parker of the killer track from the album, ‘Queen Bee’. It features the mighty vocal talents of UK Hip Hop legend Mystro and bangs hard so get it jacked…
It’s about that time again, here’s a new mix from Benny Boom. Featuring some unreleased bizzle from soon to be massive Glasgow producers HaHaHa & Raksha, newness from Wiley, Funkystepz, Canblaster and Ill Blu as well as a bit of Destiny’s Child, it’s got to be done…
Canblaster is one of our very favourite new artists. Since we find out about him in 2010 we’ve been nothing but blown away by all his releases and remixes. His unique brand of glitter house and chunky beats sets him apart as one of the most exciting and distinctive electronic artists working today. Ahead of his much anticipated set at our How’s Your Party? Bank Holiday Special on April 29th we caught up with the man himself to have a word in his ear. Here’s what he had to say…
Hey, how’s things?
Fine, finally sunny in Paris so Im chillin with the Club Cheval guys outside the studio!
First off, what made you want to make music?
I owe it to my mother I think, she really liked music and wanted all his children to be in music school, and I remember sometimes late at night when I was younger, I remember her listening to techno on headphones and dancing through the night.
Are you working on anything at the moment?
Right now I’m in the studio with the rest of the Club Cheval crew (Myd, Sam Tiba and Panteros666), we’re workin on an album together. Beside, I just finished remixes for The Count & Sinden, Boys Noize & Erol Alkan, and Funkin Matt & Teki Latex. And a remix for Donovans with Panteros666. Also working on a few featurings with Mumdance, Crookers, Douster, French Fries, and my 3rd EP for Marble, featuring a track with Sam Tiba.
Your new EP ‘Master of Complication’ dropped in February, can you tell us a little bit about the concept? There seems to be a big emphasis on the idea of clocks and time.
Yeah, I liked the idea of spinnin tracks at different tempos, and I didn’t have the chance to do really different tempos. But when I met Nightshifters, Jess and DJ DonnaSummer, they made me feel like I could really do something different, that really works as a full EP and not just 4 tracks, with a common theme and evolution. And Time is one of my obsessions, screwd and chop, pitching tunes…
Your Part of the Club Cheval crew, what’s that like?
We always help each other a lot, everyone got his speciality. Like I’m in charge of the chords, Sam Tiba of the ghetto feel and the hats, Panteros of the rhythmic side and the gabber/indie stuff, and Myd is the Pop mind of the band. We’re working on our live, with synths and drums, can’t wait to finish and test it.
Club Cheval recently remixed Underworld, how did you feel about being asked to do that?
I really like the band so it felt really good. We really tried to do something modern but using their old sounds or patterns. The second part is inspirated by the drum rhythm of Pearls Girl for example, the vocal is cut like in Cowgirl, and working on his voice was really a pleasure!
Your EP was released on Nightshifters, your first release on that label. Would you consider collaborating with any of the other artists on Nightshifters?
Yeah, I really like the other 3 artists that got signed at the same time as me, Magnum, Talk and Distal. They’re really on a good tip right now! And they did really important releases with the Ghetto Division fam.
Any other labels you’d like to work with?
RIght now, Im focused on Belgium label Pelican Fly and Para One, Surkin & Bobmo’s new label, Marble. My next EP will be released on Marble, same for Myd and Sam Tiba. And I’m gonna do a few collabs for Pelican Fly, with Richelle and Berou, but the boss of the label, DJ Slow, is a long time friend and inspiration, and Im glad to see these 2 labels having such good feedbacks after just 2 releases.
We hear you started off as a composer for video game music, what was that like?
In college I was a heavy music video games player (like Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania, etc …) and I knew a few guys from a developing team, I started doing music for little freelance games and finally some arcade companies asked me to send them some beats. That was really interresting, so different from club music…I like keeping the balance between melody and drums when I do music now.
What’s the music scene like in Douai?
I didn’t find it yet…
What’s been your best club experience, either attending or when you’ve been playing?
My first two US tours were amazing, met tons of people that were just names on MP3s before this, strong emotions and testing different crowds was really a good feeling.
What’s been your favourite release of 2011 so far?
The Ghettophiles ones, especially DJ Rashad – Just a Taste, the forthcoming Machinedrum on Planet-Mu,
Ambitions for the rest of the year?
3rd US tour, play more in Europe, maybe Australia too. And getting the Club Cheval Live ready to roll of course!
We know you’re a massive techno fan, the favourite genre of the Glasgow electronic scene. How excited are you to play the Subclub? Very excited, you have amazing artists and labels in there, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Numbers and Luckyme with lots of big releases…Out to Blackwax, I play their last EP all the time !
Anyone who’s paid the slightest bit of attention to to what we do will know we are massive fans of Bjork at MBHQ. She’s da best and that’s all there is to say on the matter. As we anticipate her forthcoming album with baited breath and sweaty palms, we can keep a lid on such nervous anticipation by treating you to this tasty little re-edit of her classic ‘Hope’ from her last album Volta. Courtesy of an exciting and mysterious young producer from Glasgow known as Feliz Plastico, it takes the original and brings some snap and pop to it with tough drums and a solid groove aimed squarely at the dance floor. It’s been tearing up the floor at our weekly shindig in Glasgow so we felt it only right that we shared it with you lot.
While you’re at it, check out Feliz Plastico’s debut EP for 3rd Abstract Records. His ‘Nature’ EP was recently released and has been causing a stir amongst the house and techno heads among us. Check it out and get yourself a copy on the double.
Clouds are at it again. Not content with setting the world alight with their fantastic ‘Numbers EP’ for Turbo Recordings, they’ve followed it up with a DJ mix to savour. Recorded for The Loose Cannons show on Kiss FM, it’s 18 cuts deep in 30 quick fire minutes and bangs as hard as you can handle. It shows Clouds at their very best, ripping up dance floors from front to back…

Our man Mr Benn recently recorded a tip top remix of Joe Driscoll’s excellent Mixtape Champs track, and it’s being given away free as part of a free remix campaign so get your ears round this.
Joe Driscoll is posting two remixes of the title track from his new album ‘Mixtape Champs’ for free download every Tuesday up through June at www.joedriscoll.net. His new album will be released May 23rd on Localization Records, just in time for the summer festival season with remixes from Skitz, Mr. Benn, Tom Caruana, Eddie Rankin of Gentleman’s Dub Club, Jon Kennedy, and Don Hendicutz. Currently on tour in the U.K., he will be appearing at many of the finest festival stages through the summer: Glastonbury, Secret Garden, Shambala, Beatherder, Sunrise, and GreenMan to name just a few.
Driscoll, an innovator of live looping, creates the soundscape of a live band utilizing beatbox loops and multi-instrumental grooves. He was a pivotal part of the One Taste collective whose alumni include Jamie Woon, Little Dragon, and Portico Quartet. He has collaborated with artists like Arrested Development, Rodney P & Skitz, and dancehall legend Spragga Benz.
The first remixes are from our very own Mr. Benn, adding his signature summery reggae hip-hop flavors, and Don Hendicutz taking it back to the old school with his aptly titled ’93 remix. Get some.
Point To C is many things to many men. To us he means the most though. Not only is he our consistently brilliant chief designer, responsible for our flyers and general visual aesthetic, he’s also one of our crack team of resident DJs, spinning his unique mix of glacial beats, hip hop heavyweights, techno sound scapes and generally tasteful yet most dance worthy selection of quality music. He is also the man behind the always-on-point Grampian Mountains blog, which he uses to showcase his seemingly endless creative endeavours as well as share his musings with the world at large.
Check out this article on 5 of his favourite DJ mixes and what they mean to him. Covering the likes of Rob Hall, Andy Votel, Hexstatic and Autechre, it’s a worth while read and we can think of few better ways to spend 15 minutes of your time before spending the rest of your life tracking down the mixes in question….

Our man Parker features on the latest ‘Into Battle’ EP, which has just been released on block party vibing label Bomb Strikes. It’s a fresh and funky retake of Jimi Hendrix’s classic ‘Foxy Lady’, brought up to speed with that unmistakable Parker charm.
It’s a vinyl only release for now so cop the 12″ from Juno while you still can…
Not only is our man DJ Moneyshot rather adept at spinning the old wax, he’s proving to be quite consumate producer these days too. His beats may not come so fast but they do come thick and funky so it’s little surprise that he’s got two brand new tracks featured on Jalapeno’s new Jalapeno Funk Compilation. Released on 28th May, ‘Mellowdip Park’ features on the full release proper while the slam jamming ‘Rob Resurrected’ is exclusive to iTunes as a digital download…
Our boys Mia Dora, HaHaHa & Raksha have just released their new track, a collaborative effort called High Sheen for a new label of the same name. Released today, it’s available from all good retailers so get it…

Soosh has just released his second EP, this time for Dutch label Fremdtunes. On ‘SoFar’, Soosh expands his wonderful style of soulful, warm melodies and drops of clapping-sounds, soft percussion and vocal shreds. Soosh is in good company on his EP, with some fantastic remixes commissioned to seal the deal. London’s Greenwood Sharps and Dutch youngster Jameszoo both remix ‘Us’ in their own highly infectious manner while beat-miner Kelpe re-arranges and delightfully smoothes out ‘Speechless’. Finally, Sekuoia adds some washed out vibes to the digital release with his bonus remix of ‘Everything You Say’.

‘Golden Ratio’ the lead single from ‘From All Angles’, the forthcoming debut album from Profisee
Featuring collaborations with Starkey, Neil Landstrumm, Dam Mantle, Ghislian Poirier, S-Type and more, ‘From All Angles’ is released today.
‘From All Angles explores the search for balance amongst chaos, observes the beauty that exists around us, and appreciates the many qualities we already possess – the journey is the reward.’
The Allergies is the all-new production/DJ outfit from heavyweight disc jocks Rackabeat (Chai Wallahs) and DJ Moneyshot (Solid Steel). Drawing on such influences as Boca 45, Gramatik and RJD2, the pair aim to bring that vintage sound of sampled funk, psych, hip-hop and rock back to the forefront of club music. With remixes for Double Yellow (Tru Thoughts) on the way, and tracks lined up for a Riddim Fruit compilation, the duo can’t wait to gauge reactions to their new direction.
DJing live they take on two decks and efx, whipping through dope beats and funky breaks with skill and speed, looping on the fly and layering up acapellas to detonate dance floor dynamite. Expect an EP soon, and shows that breathe new life into the finest dusty old records. For now, get your mitts on this rework of a hip hop ultra classic…
This new mix from Boom Monk Ben is another club mix of deep, bass riddims, jacking house numbers, old school classics, unreleased exclusives and future anthems. Almost every one of the artists is playing a Mixed Bizness party at some point in 2012 and this mix sums up where Benny Boom is at just now. It starts off quite deep and wonky and slowly turns the screw as it goes, upping the jack factor before pulling out the classics to send them home.
