Leisure Allstars

Biog

The Leisure Allstars are a production outfit and DJ collective whose brand of party-rocking hip hop, funk, soul, breaks, dubstep, drum & bass and anything else big, bad and heavy that tickles their fancy, has seen them make a real name for themselves over the last decade in Bristol and beyond. They have performed alongside some of the world’s finest DJs, including pretty much anyone who’s anyone in the broad worlds of beats and bass of all varieties, as well as playing at some of the UK’s best club nights, plus Glastonbury, Shambala and Big Chill Festivals.

Their productions, which combine all of these wide-ranging musical elements found in their DJ sets, have received strong support from DJs and punters both in the UK and worldwide. Hailing from laidback Bristol, it was no surprise that their debut single, ‘Get Your Hands In The Air’, took so long to come out, but when it did it soon became an underground hit. With a fusion of heavy beats, reggae vocals and Charleston horns, the single picked up rave reviews from every freestyle DJ worth their salt, and was licensed by DJ E.A.S.E from Nightmares On Wax for his ‘My Definition’ compilation album.

A further slew of productions and remixes followed over the years, including several as their alter-egos The Bodybeard Brothers, Drake Scorpio, Professor Dodecahedron and Lord Grigio, with licensing deals to Azuli, Unique, and Big Chill compilation series’ along the way.

Vocal collaborators have so far included the vocalist Hollie G (Roni Size, Clipz, Die, Eddie K), UK dancehall artist Lady Chann (Warrior One, Sticky), Sarah Scott (Parker, Jon Kennedy live), New York MCs The Good People (Boca 45 & Parker aka The Beekeepers), and Yolanda (Bugz In The Attic, Pinch, Freq Nasty).

The collective’s Sex, Drugs & Rock ‘n’ Roll concept mix CD became record of the week and subsequent best-seller at Manchester’s legendary Fat City record shop, leading them to declare: “The UK has a new party mix tape champion…” They also receive strong support from Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel radio show, featuring on their roster several times with plenty more to come.

Now divided between Bristol, London and Sydney, the decision was made to wrap up the label Leisure Recordings they set up almost a decade ago, but the Allstars continue to DJ and produce, with two new and very different projects underway for 2012, plus their ‘Sound of Leisure’ radio show with producer and DJ Mr Benn continues to go from strength to strength on burgeoning internet station spaceinvaderradio.com.
