Seb Diamond & Phil AD - Night Trackin Mix

Here’s part 2 of the Subcity Presents mixes from this week’s show….

Seb Diamond & Phil AD co-orchestrated the Turbo Crunk parties in Montreal that brought the likes of Nosaj Thing, Machinedrum, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Lazersword, Ghosts on Tape, Theophilus London, The Bug, Rustie, Mike Slott, Lando Kal and more to Montreal for the first time. They continue to put on shows in Montreal for the likes of Dam-Funk, YACHT, The Juan MacLean and who knows what more…

Night Trackin’ is their monthly house and disco party alongside Brendon DuVall, and here’s a taste of that party:

Seb Diamond & Phil AD - Nite Trackin Mix (Direct MP3 Link)

Intro - Hercules – 7 Ways To Jack

What to say about this track, it’s the Modus Operandi of what we do. We checked for 7 songs that both meant a lot to us personally, represented our monthly party, and had elements in common: “those” claps and synth lines and a timeless feeling that might seem revivalist and slightly nostalgic, but is genuine and looks to the future. Jack the house!

1. The Juan MacLean – A Human Disaster (House of House Remix)

House of House literally brought the three of us together. Brendon dropped “Rushing To Paradise”, (our favorite track of 2009, really) Seb pulled the no-no of rushing to the booth to ask what it was, and 2 months later we found ourselves putting on a show with The Juan MacLean and CFCF. We LOVE the 909 in this remix, House of House are to check for in 2010, real talk.

2. Mike Mind – Resonate (Kebacid Remix)

Another pivotal track for us. We used to go to Mike Mind and Jordan Dare’s techno weekly at Blizzarts religiously (RIP). They are our favorite DJs in the city and inspire us greatly. We’re very stoked for Mike’s first release on Turbo, and it’s only fitting that Jesper Dahlbäck & Jori Hulkkonen would come through with the monster acid remix for the EP.

3. DJ T – Shine On (Motor City Drum Ensemble Warehouse Dub Mix)

If House of House made our favorite song of 2009, MCDE was the most thrilling act we saw emerge last year. Everything he touches is gold. The Raw Cuts series is flawless, his remixes of Tom Trago and DJ Sprinkles were the go-to staples at our monthly party and we can’t wait to get him down to Montreal in 2010. The vibes in this are nostalgic but fresh, there’s just something about those claps and vocal sample that are absolutely undeniable…

4. Precious System – The Voice From Planet Love (Dixon Chic-A-Go Edit)

Speaking of nostalgia, this beast of an edit from Dixon reminds us of old Larry Heard productions (Can U Feel It!!!) that made us feel like aliens were trying to teach us about love. Weird, we know, but the claps, cowbells and synth line in this one are just otherworldly.

5. Hunee – Took My Love

If Precious System provided the voice from planet Love, then Hunee took it. These two songs were meant to be played back to back.

6. Robert Owens – Bring Down The Walls

Classic Trax Records. Unfuckwithable.

7. Azari & III – Hungry For The Power (Matias Aguayo & Cosmo Vitelli Remix)

We wouldn’t dream of ending on anything else but Azari & III. Reckless (With Your Love) was that song we felt guilty about playing for the umpteenth time but did anyways. They will be the first guests at our party for 2010 and we could not be more excited. Congratulations on all the accolades boys, no one deserves it more.
